What is the Human–Animal Bond (HAB)?

The Human–Animal Bond (HAB) is a term developed in the late 20th century and is now widely used by research centers, universities, and organizations around the world.

What many people simply call the human–animal bond (HAB) is, at its heart, a sacred space where God’s presence, love, and mission come together in ordinary places.

Why This Site Exists

This site is dedicated to recognizing God as the foundation of the Human–Animal Bond. Because of this, I refer to it as the God-Human-Animal Bond (the GHAB™).

What Is the God-Human-Animal Bond (the GHAB™)?

The GHAB™ describes a living, three‑way relationship among God, humans, and animals, sustained by the Holy Spirit and rooted in creation, covenant, and redemption.

About Dr. Cooper

Rev. Dr. Ashley Cooper is an Ordained Community Chaplain and author of "The Holy Link of the God–Human–Animal Bond: Reimagining Our Stories to Include Animals." My work comes from over 25 years of ministry, spiritual direction, and life with animals. It's the dogs, donkeys, barn cats, and others that continue to teach me how God draws near through these creaturely bonds.

Dr. Cooper holds a Master of Divinity with a specialization in Psychology and Counseling from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry in Spiritual Formation and Missional Theology from Lipscomb University’s Hazelip School of Theology, where her thesis focused on the God–Human–Animal Bond, the core theme of this book. She is also the author of two children’s books that highlight this bond: "Stay, Winston!" and "A Dog's Utopia: Jenny’s Healing Journey Among Friends."
